The Southpaws are the newest addition to the Old North State League. They made their debut May 2024 with an unprecedented level of excitement and engagement to the baseball scene in Eastern North Carolina.

New Bern Baseball is Back!
It’s been a while since New Bern has had a baseball team to rally behind. The New Bern Bears, a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, once graced the city’s baseball scene from 1937 to 1952. During their time, they made quite a splash, with six playoff appearances and three league championships under their belt.
Their legacy has indelibly marked the city’s sports history, and people have felt their absence ever since.
Now, after decades of waiting, baseball is making a triumphant return to New Bern. This return is thanks to the arrival of the New Bern Southpaws. The Southpaws are gearing up to reignite the passion for America’s favorite pastime in Eastern North Carolina.
The Old North State League
The Old North State League stands as the premier summer collegiate baseball league in North Carolina. The league boasts a rich tradition of top-tier talent and thrilling competition.
Now, with the inclusion of the New Bern Southpaws, the league’s reach and impact are poised to expand even further.
ECU Baseball fans will be thrilled to learn that Parker Byrd, a familiar face from their own team, will be suiting up for the New Bern Southpaws this summer baseball season.
Dave Caccavaro, a valued member of the New Bern community for nearly 30 years, is the New Bern Southpaws General Manager.
Dave brings over two decades of expertise in local sports. With a rich background as a coach, teacher, and broadcaster for over 20 years, Dave has amassed a wealth of experience, contributing significantly to the sporting landscape of New Bern.
Historic Kafer Park
The Historic Kafer Park will be the home venue for the New Bern Southpaws. The venue provides the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable baseball experience. Steeped in tradition and brimming with excitement, New Bern baseball eagerly anticipates its return.
Locals and visitors alike can look forward to experiencing the thrill of live baseball. Locals won’t have to travel far for this American pastime. Visitors to Eastern North Carolina now have another exciting activity for their travel plans.

Excitement builds for opening night on May 25th, 2024! Rest easy, baseball fans; the Southpaws are ready to pen a new chapter in New Bern’s baseball history. This season promises to be filled with excitement, community spirit, and the timeless joy of the game.
